The event is part of the GRAMMY Museum’s Education Division Family Music Series that offers highly engaging and interactive opportunities for families to enjoy and learn about music together. Guests can watch an artist perform in the Museum’s intimate GRAMMY Sound Stage, while learning about the history of their favorite musical genre.

Before or after the concert, stay to check out the permanent and temporary exhibits in the GRAMMY Museum. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is coming to town, and it wants to honor three stand-out kids in the Southland who are making a difference in the community! Nominations are currently being accepted for “The Barnum Award,” a Southland search to honor three stand-out kids who are making a difference in our community. You can nominate that special child between the ages of six and 14 who has demonstrated the entrepreneurial and philanthropic spirit of P.T. Barnum. If the child has used creativity and innovative thinking to develop a solution to a pressing issue in your community, or selflessly dedicated their time to a community service project, then answer a few short questions and submit your nomination HERE. Gold, Silver and Bronze place winners will receive cash prizes to continue their service. The award ceremony will be held on opening night at the Honda Center, July 28th.

Celebrate the latest addition to the Putumayo Kids Playground series of upbeat sounds perfect for dancing and playing at this Saturday’s Rock & Roll Playground Release Party at the GRAMMY Museum, featuring artist Melissa Green! Melissa Green is one of the musicians featured on this latest album from Putamayo Kids, the label well-known for its commitment to introducing children to other cultures through music from around the world. The Rock & Roll Playground Release Party will take place on June 12, 2010 at 10 a.m. on the Nokia Live! downtown L.A. campus at The GRAMMY Museum at 800 West Olympic Boulevard, 90015.

Rock & Roll Playground is a tribute to the early history of rock ‘n’ roll and features music by a stellar group of established and up-and-coming artists, including Grammy Award winners Dan Zanes and Friends and popular favorites Rhythm Child, Peter Himmelman, Starfish, Roger Day, Uncle Rock, Bill Harley, Brady Rymer and the Little Band that Could, Taj Mahal and Linda Tillery, Charity and the JAMband and Rosie Flores & the Pine Valley Cosmonauts.

Saturday’s Release Party will be presented by the GRAMMY Museum® Education Department and Putumayo Kids and will feature a concert by Melissa Green, who began singing with kids as a preschool teacher in New York City. She was inspired by her students to begin writing songs. Now living in Los Angeles, Melissa has two albums, a DVD and a self-published book based on The Seahorse Song. You can listen to Melissa’s upbeat, eclectic mix of pop and folk in the Museum’s intimate 200-seat Sound Stage and explore the Museum’s interactive exhibits immediately following the show.

The GRAMMY Museum’s Musical Explorations Series is a great way to combine education and entertainment! Be on the lookout for these bi-monthly family programs, which in the past have included performances by Milkshake, Ozomatli and Ziggy Marley. And if you haven’t checked out the GRAMMY Museum, it’s worth a visit with a permanent exhibit showcasing the history of every possible musical genre you can think of and special exhibits such as the current Elvis at 21 photographs, Michael Jackson: A Musical Legacy and selections from the Neil Diamond Collection. The best part for the kids and the kid in you is that many of the installations are interactive! (Personally, we love the Michael Jackson Billy Jean interactive dance floor!)
