    Arpilleras! Explore the world of illustrative Andean wall hangings, exquisitely detailed hand-sewn three dimensional textile pictures. The arpilleras tell the stories of life: stories of planting and harvesting potatoes, tomatoes, cabbages, grapes, corn; stories of spinning and weaving wool; stories of country life, of tending llamas, sheep and goats; stories of weddings and fiestas.

    feature live music performances, organic foods, a local global green marketplace and environmentally conscious activities.

    All vendors will use cups, spoons, forks, knives, garbage bags, napkins, and plates that are Biodegradable, to ensure that we are environmentally conscious. We will ensure that all the products are properly recycled or composted.

    All proceeds will benefit MUSE Elementary and MUSE Global scholarship funds.

Participants will learn a bit about poetry basics and then be led through writing poems in anticipation of Father’s Day. Each child will take home a bound copy of their poem that can double as a wonderful Father’s Day present.

    Southwest Museum of the American Indian. A museum teacher or museum volunteer will read two beautifully illustrated Navajo stories. First up is The Unbreakable Code by Sara Hoagland Hunter, illustrated by Julia Miner. Then stick around for Turquoise Boy, written and adapted by Terri Cohlene and illustrated by Charles Reasoner. Afterward, participate in a hands-on, docent-led activity.

    More than 20 performers and music and dances from around the world will be the highlight of this event. Art exhibits, a Musical Zoo, arts and crafts and theatre exploration will ensure fun for the whole family.

    A Young Artist Corner from noon to 3:45 will feature origami, puppets, drums and shakers, caterpillars and flowers, Native American headbands and more. Teen expressions will showcase a collaborative painting inspired by dance, music and theatre.

    The Story Corner, one of many stages will have the following lineup:

    12th Annual SoRo Community Festival

    Local caterers, restaurants, merchants, schools, entertainers and organizations will participate. This street festival features booths, games, ethnic food, activities for kids, and entertainment. The Festival will feature activities for kids, ethnic, vegetarian and kosher food booths, a live music stage and lots of exciting artist and vendor booths. Plenty of fun for the whole family on a Sunday afternoon.

    The SoRo Community Festival is put on by the South Robertson Neighborhoods
    Council and SoRo, Inc. and funded in part by a grant from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department. We would like to invite the entire Southern California community to join our event.

    Free street parking is also available.

    Chhwali, the art of using wheat straw to create images, has been practiced for thousands of years. Join renowned Nepalese artist Amir KC, who learned the process as a child from his father, in this unique workshop and create a small straw work inspired by Hindu deities.

    This event, brought to you by the LA County Bike Coalition and Moms In Motion, will introduce young children to important bike safety lessons through fun, interactive activities. Kids 6 and under will practice their riding techniques on a festive bike loop. Bikes and trikes are welcome – all riders must wear a helmet. Prizes and t-shirts for all registrants. Registration and festivities begin at 10:00 a.m. to allow families the option to also join the Family Ride at 11 a.m.
