Come face to face with a dinosaur at the Natural History Museum’s Dinosaur Encounters. On any of the days listed above, be prepared to encounter a preshistoric animal roaming the halls! You’ll get close enough to count their teeth! Call in the morning to see if you’ll be more likely to say hello to a 14-foot juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex or a 9-foot juvenile Triceratops in the North American Mammal Hall.
Don’t be too scared, the juvenile dinosaurs are actually life-size puppets, fabricated by skilled artists with the help of NHM paleontologists. Each puppet is controlled by a talented performer, who help you better understand how dinosaurs may have looked, sounded, and behaved. “Dinosaur Interpreters,” will teach you a lot as they also try to wrangle a little dinosaur on the loose.
