Summer Concerts and Music in & around Los Angeles
Making Music in Los Angeles with Summer Concerts
A few drinks into Hollywood Bowl date night with my hubby at the Santigold concert this past weekend didn’t stop me from turning my focus to Jude, our daughter. The beautiful night in a more beautiful venue reminded me how lucky we are to have this world-class facility in our backyard, not just for our grown-up enjoyment, but for the enjoyment of our children as well.
Last summer was Jude’s first time taking part in the Hollywood Bowl Summer Sounds program, and though she was elbow to elbow with a gaggle of other little kids, I’m certain each performance was an intimate and memorable experience. Now that she’s a year older I am looking even more forward to Summer Sounds for her beginning next month—of course for the fun and enrichment aspects but also for the fact that it will provide an easy weekly excursion for us and a few friends, where Jude can dress up in her own Hollywood Bowl outfits and be imprinted with the cultural experiences that I hope she’ll never take for granted.
In every corner of Los Angeles county, the summer season is coming alive with music. Concerts and festivals abound, and almost every park and facility has some kind of free or low-cost musical performance going on. Many are family friendly and some are tailored just for kids. One can easily fill every single day of the week with something musical! It’s a special privilege that like clockwork comes around every year, and something we should absolutely take advantage of but never take for granted. It’s a pleasant reminder to me that this type of access to the arts is one of the reasons I choose to live in L.A.
Here are a few of the music concerts and performances taking place around town this summer. Bookmark this page on the website for future reference throughout the summer months. This is not an extensive list but we will try to update it as much as possible, so check back for more word on free, al fresco performances right in your neighborhood.
