The final installment of Sustainable Sundays until the series returns in 2010. Titled “The Local Green Scene,” this daylong event features speakers, performance and a special art exhibit that explores the natural world through the images and words of children.
The finale of this community-minded green series features the National Park Service’s Christy Bingham, performance troupe Ecos World, and special collaboration between Santa Monica’s Blueberry Atelier Preschool and the Children’s Nature Institute.
SCHEDULE:
12:30 pm The National Park Service’s Christy Bingham. She’ll discuss sustainable practices to use at home and the recreational opportunities available in the Santa Monica Mountains for Angelenos looking to reconnect with nature.
12, 2, 3 pm Ecos World performances. This troupe blends theater, music, classroom, and games, all while promoting the “green” cause. Shows are at 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm in the North American Mammal Hall, Level 1.
Special Exhibit Open June 13-21 is “A Sense of Wonder and a Sense of Place: Viewing Nature through the Images and Words of Our Children,” an interactive, multi-sensory experience for preschool children and their families. Over the past year, Blueberry Atelier and the Children’s Nature Institute have been working in collaboration to offer unique, hands-on nature experiences for the parents and children of Blueberry. For the project, families were invited to slow down, rediscover and reconnect with nature. Through photographs, paintings, and poetry, the children made visible their connections to the land.
