Before dark, enjoy performances and workshops by notable Los Angeles’ puppeteers. Shop at unique gift booths, make a simple puppet or learn to manipulate one. Have a hot dog and win a prize at the annual raffle. Proceeds are used to fund the festival.

Then, when the night comes, feast your eyes on The Mahabarata in Shadows. Bring a blanket and enjoy the night under the stars with Bali & Beyond’s Maria Bodmann and Cliff DeArment presenting one of their favorite shadow plays! An oil lamp flickers in the darkness. Lacy silhouettes dance and flutter as epic tales of rivalry and conquest are laced with classic human lesson and unrestricted wit. Traditional Wayang Kulit shadow play is presented in English and the ancient Kawi language of Bali. Complete with live Gender Wayang gamelan music, ancient songs, offerings and mantras, stories include The Royal Consecration in Maya’s palace of illusion, The High Priest’s Challenge to young warriors, The Heavenly Princes and their search for Arjuna, and many more.
