redcat-entranceThis weekend the city is abuzz with the Academy Awards. Whether or not your L.A. Kid has decided that she’s ready for her close-up, take her to a place where the big screen is tailored specifically for little people. This Saturday and Sunday are the last two days of the REDCAT International Children’s Film Festival at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theatre at Walt Disney Hall at 631 West 2nd Street, Los Angeles 90012.

We took our L.A. Kid to last Sunday’s screenings sponsored by Nickelodeon, and packed house notwithstanding, she was mesmerized by the big screen and its offerings, particularly Dora and friends and my daughter’s new friends, Team Umizoomi. Several balloons, face paintings, made-to-order character sketches from Nickelodeon artists, goodie bags, Dora, Diego, and Boots photo-ops later, I was convinced it was the most worthy destination at which I had spent a $5 admission fee in a long time.

Kid Stuff is pleased to offer a giveaway contest for three family-four pack of tickets to the REDCAT International Children’s Film Festival’s last day and grand finale screenings this Sunday, March 7, 2010. Sunday’s screenings may not have characters or face paintings, but the chance to expose kids to world-class international films created especially for their demographic in a beautiful downtown Los Angeles venue is a must have experience in cultural entertainment and enrichment.

Entitled “Animation Brigade,” nine shorts during this Sunday’s NOON screenings are a salute to AB Studios, a group of Latvian animators whose puppet animation films Rescue Team, Munk and Lemmy, and Animals are full of brave, roguish and mischievous creatures for all ages. These screenings are appropriate for ages 2 and up. L.A. Kid Stuff is giving away a family four-pack of tickets to the noon screenings.

Balloons window“Magic Carpet” screenings at 1:30 p.m. on the same day will feature inventive international animation for kids ages 7 and up, who’ll see the world in a whole new way. L.A. Kid Stuff is giving away a family four-pack of tickets to the 1:30 p.m. screenings.

Finally, the environmentally-conscious “Green Screen” screenings at 3 p.m. blend fiction and fact for ages 8 and up to foster awareness and guide kids on how they can make a difference in the health of the planet. What a great way to entertain the tweens and teach them about environmentalism in the process! L.A. Kid Stuff is giving away a family four-pack of tickets to the 3 p.m. screenings.
